Vedanta is a knowledge of life and living. The original texts in which this knowledge is contained are called the Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. However these text may be difficult to understand directly. Additionally, one may need an understanding of the fundamental concepts of life and living beforehand. The Vedanta syllabus serves this purpose. A systematic, methodical course of study guiding one from basic principles to higher truths of life. The 4 week program will outline the literature authored and commented on by Swami Parthasarathy. These books are the literature that will be used in the weekly classes. The program will commence with an explanation of Vedanta followed by three sessions providing a summary of each of the books and concluding with an orientation.
The third book in the study of Vedanta is The Holocaust of Attachment. 7 Chapters expounding the devastating quality of the mind, attachment. It is attachment that causes all the suffering and sorrow in the world. The book explains in details the various forms of attachment and how to overcome attachment through detachment. The last book in the installment is Vedanta Treatise – The Eternities. Regarded as today’s modern scripture. The Vedanta Treatise is the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita for the layperson. A text that guides you to spiritual unfoldment.
